About the Journal

Critique: Journal of English Language and Literature is a globally recognized peer reviewed journal that publishes excellent and innovative research. Please refer to the journal's Aims & Scope section for information about its focus and peer review process.

Critique publishes manuscripts in English and accepts the following types of articles:

 Open Access

Critique: Journal of English Language and Literature is a peer-reviewed journal that offers open access to its content. Upon acceptance through peer review, each article becomes freely accessible online immediately after publication. Additionally, all articles are published under a Creative Commons License and will remain available online indefinitely.

 Peer Review and Ethics

Our editorial team is committed to maintaining peer-review integrity and adhering to the highest standards of evaluation. Following an initial assessment by the editor for suitability, your paper will undergo a double-blind peer review by two independent experts. Please note that anonymity cannot be assured if you have previously shared an earlier version of your manuscript on a preprint server.

 Preparing Your Paper

Structure: Arrange your paper in the following sequence: Title page; abstract; keywords; main text consisting of introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (if applicable); tables with captions (on separate pages); figures; figure captions in a list.

Word Limits: Please include a word count for your paper. A typical paper is restricted to 5000-8000 words.

Format-free Submission: Authors have the freedom to submit their paper in any scholarly format or layout. Manuscripts may be submitted as single or multiple files, in formats such as Word, rich text format (rtf), open document format (odt), PDF, or LaTeX files. Figures and tables can be integrated within the text or submitted as separate documents, provided they are of sufficient resolution for review. While there are no strict formatting guidelines, all manuscripts must include essential elements for evaluation, such as abstract, author affiliation, figures, tables, funder information, and references. Additional details may be requested upon acceptance.

Reference style: Critique adheres to the APA reference style. Please consult the latest APA guidelines to ensure that your manuscript aligns with this reference style.

Checklist: What to Include

Author information: Ensure all named authors meet the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) authorship criteria. Each author should provide their full name and affiliation on the manuscript's cover page. Additionally, include ORCIDs if available. Designate one author as the corresponding author with their email address that will be displayed in the article PDF and online version.

Abstract: Include an unstructured abstract of 250 words.

Funding Details: Provide funding details as required by the relevant funding bodies, including the grant number(s) and agency name(s).

Disclosure Statement: Disclose any financial or non-financial interests arising from your research. If no competing interests exist, state this within the article.

Acknowledgements: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an Acknowledgements section. This might include individuals who offered technical assistance or peers who provided general support.

Biographical Note: Supply a brief biographical note for each author, preferably not exceeding 200 words.

Data Availability Statement: If applicable, provide information on where the data supporting the paper's results or analyses can be accessed, including hyperlinks or persistent identifiers.

Figures: Ensure figures are high-quality and provided in preferred formats such as EPS, PS, JPEG, TIFF, or editable Microsoft Word files.

Tables: Present new information in tables and ensure it is interpretable without reference to the text. Supply editable files.

 Using Third-Party Material

You must obtain the necessary permission to reuse third-party material in your article. However, limited use of short text extracts and certain other materials for criticism and review purposes may be permitted without formal permission. If you intend to include material in your paper that you do not hold the copyright for and that is not covered by this informal agreement, you must obtain written permission from the copyright owner before submitting your article.

 Submitting Your Paper

Critique: Journal of English Language and Literature uses OJS Submission Portal for handling submissions. Please be aware that Critique uses Crossref for screening papers to detect unoriginal content. By submitting your paper to Critique: Journal of English Language and Literature, you consent to undergo originality checks during the peer-review and production stages.

 Data Sharing Policy

Authors are encouraged to openly share the data supporting the findings or analyses presented in their paper, provided it does not compromise the privacy or security of human subjects or raise other valid concerns. Authors are urged to deposit their dataset(s) in a recognized data repository capable of assigning a persistent digital identifier, preferably a digital object identifier (DOI), and maintaining a long term preservation plan. Authors should also cite any referenced datasets in the article and include a Data Availability Statement. Upon submission, authors will be asked if there is an associated dataset with the paper. If so, they will need to provide the DOI, pre-registered DOI, hyperlink, or other persistent identifier linked to the dataset(s). Authors choosing to provide a pre-registered DOI should be prepared to share the reviewer URL associated with their data deposit, if requested by reviewers. Data sets associated with a manuscript are not formally peer-reviewed as part of the journal submission process. Authors are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the data, and any errors in the data remain the responsibility of the data set producers.

 Publication Charges

There are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges for this journal. However, in the future, Critique: Journal of English Language and Literature may introduce a one-time article processing charge (APC) if your manuscript is accepted for publication after peer review.

Upon publication, you will have access to view, download, and review the contents and metrics of your article (including downloads, citations, and Altmetric data) on the journal's website.
